Nuki Smart Module: the connected lock becomes invisible and directly integrates into the door

The Austrian specialist in connected locks Nuki continues to expand its ecosystem. After having widely popularized the adaptable connected lock for existing doors, the brand has taken a new step forward with the announcement of the Nuki Smart Module, a solution designed from the outset for new constructions.

Unlike traditional Smart Locks that are attached to an existing cylinder, this new module integrates directly into the door. Invisible, permanently powered, and compatible with major home automation ecosystems, it aims to transform how intelligent access is integrated into modern homes.

A logical evolution for a company that already claims more than 600,000 connected locks installed worldwide and over two billion lockings performed each year via its platform.

An invisible module directly integrated into the door

The uniqueness of the Nuki Smart Module lies in its complete integration into the door. While traditional connected locks add a visible motor on the inside, this module is entirely concealed within the door structure. No external elements betray its presence.

The idea is simple: to offer an intelligent access system that does not alter the design or ergonomics of the door. For the end user, the door looks like a classic door, but it actually benefits from all the features of a connected lock.

This approach has been developed in partnership with Rehau Window Solutions, a specialist in door and window solutions. The goal: to allow door manufacturers to natively integrate Nuki technology into their products.

For construction professionals, the benefits are obvious. Integration is done directly at the factory or during the installation of the door, without adding any visible accessory and without later modifications.

All the features of Nuki Smart Locks

Even though the module disappears into the door, the features remain those that users already know from the brand’s connected locks.

The system allows, in particular, the automatic opening of the door when the user approaches, the management of digital keys for family or guests, remote access via smartphone, and a complete history of openings.

In other words, the door becomes a true connected entry point into the home.

This logic perfectly matches modern uses. In a home equipped with home automation, the door can, for example, trigger automated scenarios. The arrival of a family member can activate the lighting, deactivate the alarm, or adjust the heating.

Integration thus becomes much more natural than with a lock added later.

A system powered continuously

One of the weak points of connected locks is often power management. Rechargeable batteries or batteries that need to be replaced regularly… it’s not always ideal.

The Smart Module solves this problem by being powered directly by the door, thanks to a permanent power supply integrated into the installation.

No need to change batteries or remember to charge a battery. The system operates continuously, which improves reliability and simplifies maintenance.

For new homes or real estate programs, this is an obvious advantage. Intelligent access becomes a structural feature of the building, on par with intercoms or gate automation.

Matter compatibility and smart home ecosystems

Nuki has also considered integration into modern connected homes.

The Smart Module is compatible with Matter, the standard aimed at unifying connected devices in the home. This compatibility allows for direct integration with major ecosystems:

  • Apple Home
  • Google Home
  • Amazon Alexa
  • Samsung SmartThings

For enthusiasts of advanced home automation, this also opens the door to more sophisticated integrations via platforms like Home Assistant.

Access management can then be integrated into more complex scenarios. For example, opening the door can automatically disable the alarm, adjust the shutters, or launch a “presence” mode in the house.

A modular system with multiple access methods

Even though the module is integrated into the door, the Nuki ecosystem remains fully modular.

It is possible to add different accessories to adapt the system to the housing’s usage.

A keypad can allow for code access, useful for children or short-term rentals. A fingerprint reader offers quick biometric authentication. And NFC technology also allows for access via smartphone or compatible badge.

The philosophy remains the same as with the brand’s other products: a flexible system capable of adapting to different usage contexts.

A solution designed for new construction

With this product, Nuki is clearly targeting the new construction market. Until now, the brand mainly dominated the renovation segment with its locks that are adaptable to existing doors.

The Smart Module now allows for intelligent access to be integrated directly into the architecture of the building.

According to Martin Pansy, co-founder and CEO of Nuki, this evolution is part of the continuity of the company’s initial vision: to gradually render the physical key obsolete.

The stakes are significant. In modern real estate programs, developers are increasingly looking to integrate connected features from the design stage of housing.

An invisible, maintenance-free smart lock perfectly meets this trend.

Availability and first presentation

The Nuki Smart Module will be available in the fourth quarter of 2026.

It will be offered in two ways: integrated directly by partner door manufacturers, or sold as a standalone product through certified Nuki Pro partners and the official brand store.

Before that, the module will be presented for the first time at the Fensterbau Frontale trade show, which will take place in Nuremberg from March 24 to 27, 2026. This event is one of the major gatherings in the doors and windows sector in Europe.
