Test of the Laifen P3 Pro: the electric razor that shakes up the giants of the sector

For a long time, when it came to high-end electric razors, two names dominated the conversation: Braun and Philips. Then Laifen arrived with its hair dryers, capable of standing comparison with market leaders while costing less. More recently, the brand took on the electric toothbrushes with the same goal. The Chinese manufacturer is now trying its luck in an even more competitive market: electric shaving.

I tested the T1 Pro a few months ago and I still use it today. But here comes its bigger brother, the Laifen P3 Pro. A more ambitious model, designed for those who want a quick, comfortable shave, and capable of handling a denser beard.

On paper, it sounds appealing: a dual linear motor with 12,000 oscillations per minute, a chassis machined from a single block of aerospace aluminum, a claimed battery life of 100 minutes, USB-C charging, and IPX7 certification. But does it hold up in real life?

Unboxing and presentation of the Laifen P3 Pro

The box clearly plays in Apple’s league. Sleek presentation, the product well showcased, careful packaging. For an electric razor, it’s a surprise.

In the box:

  • the Laifen P3 Pro razor
  • a magnetic protection cap
  • a USB-C cable
  • a cleaning brush
  • documentation

No carrying pouch. This is the only real disappointment upon opening. Laifen sells one as an option, but at this price, it should have been included.

Once in hand, the P3 Pro is immediately different from what we are used to seeing.

While its competitors stick with plastic, Laifen has opted for a monocoque chassis made from CNC machined aerospace aluminum – the entire piece carved from a single block, like some MacBooks. It weighs about 180 grams, feels good in the hand, and frankly seems really serious.

A small transparent window shows the motors inside. It’s purely decorative, but it gives the razor a look recognizable at first glance. In short, it’s very beautiful.

A design thought out in every detail

The shaving head rests on three elements: two main grids and a central blade to capture the lying hairs. Each part moves independently to follow the contours of the face.

What convinced me the most is the magnetic attachment. The head comes off in two seconds for rinsing or replacement – the protective cap too. It’s this kind of detail that makes you use a device daily rather than leave it lying around because cleaning is a chore.

Under the razor, a cover protects the USB-C port. Finally!

Some major brands still cling to their proprietary connectors. With the P3 Pro, you use the same cable as your phone. And this, when you travel often, is a game changer!

Setup and handling of the Laifen P3 Pro

Here, there’s nothing to configure. The razor arrives partially charged and can be used immediately.

A long press activates airplane mode (a small icon appears) to avoid accidental starts in a bag. Handy.

The compact format is both its main strength and what distinguishes it the most from traditional razors. Under the nose, around the lips, on the sideburns, along the jawline – the usually tricky areas are much easier to manage than with a bulkier razor. However, wide strokes on the cheeks take a bit more time than with a Braun Series 9, for example.

Impressive motors

Two linear motors, each with 12,000 cycles per minute. Laifen also incorporates electronic regulation inspired by PID (a control system used in the industry) to maintain a constant speed even in areas of dense beard.

In practice: the razor hardly ever slows down, pulls are rare, and the noise remains contained despite the power. In use, I felt less irritation with the P3 Pro than with other models I’ve had in the past.

User feedback after several weeks

On a beard of 24 to 48 hours, it’s very convincing. The shave is quick, the grids glide without effort, and the skin doesn’t pull even after several passes in the same spot. Honestly, before testing it, I expected a compromise on comfort. This is where it surprised me the most.

Sensitive skin should feel relieved. Few redness during my tests, no notable heating. The head warms slightly after a few minutes, but never to the point of being bothersome.

The razor is well-suited for daily use, for shaving every other day, for sensitive skin, and for frequent travel.

Its limits with the thickest beards

Beyond three days of beard, it gets complicated. Thick and lying hairs require multiple passes. The result is eventually there, but it takes significantly longer.

If you have a dense beard, a first pass with a trimmer helps.

No integrated precision comb either. For clean lines, an additional tool will be necessary.

Battery life and maintenance

1000 mAh battery for an advertised 100 minutes. The estimate holds up in practice. For a few minutes of shaving per session, several weeks without a recharge are feasible.

Quick USB-C charging is a real plus: just a few minutes is enough to recover enough battery life for a complete shave.

The magnetic head detaches quickly and the whole thing can be rinsed under water (IPX7). Not much to say about maintenance. Simple and effective.

Laifen P3 Pro or Laifen T1 Pro: which one to choose?

After testing both, their uses are distinct.

The T1 Pro is the pocket razor. Its size is close to that of a manual razor, lightweight, with cutting combs. Ideal for daily shaving or maintaining a short beard, especially when traveling. Personally, as I always maintain a 2-3 day beard, it’s my preferred model, used with a comb.

The P3 Pro, on the other hand, operates in a different category. Its three-element head and dual motorization handle a more substantial beard better. It’s also quicker on large areas of the face. It’s the model to favor for a perfect shave.

In summary: the T1 Pro for daily touch-ups and light travel. The P3 Pro to replace your main razor without sacrificing compactness.

Verdict: a premium razor that brings a breath of fresh air

The Laifen P3 Pro is a serious alternative to the big brands, and not just in terms of price. The build quality is remarkable for this segment. The design stands out. The shaving comfort is among the best I’ve seen in a compact foil razor.

It doesn’t excel with several days’ beards, and enthusiasts of ultra-precise contours will need an additional tool. But for daily or every-other-day use, it really holds up.

This P3 Pro confirms that Laifen’s foray into shaving was not a gamble.
