Build a Face-Recognizing Safe with a Raspberry Pi

Having a safe is a great way to store your valuables, and now you can lock them away in a DIY, face-recognizing setup with a some free software, a Raspberry Pi, and a Pi camera.

Tony DiCola and David Scheltema at Make put together a step-by-step guide for installing and configuring the software, connecting the components, and mounting the Pi on the safe door. The free software is based on OpenCV, a small program that runs well on a Raspberry Pi, and the camera is just a proper Pi camera module.
