Netatmo updates its essentials: 2K+ HDR outdoors, Matter at the heart of heating

Netatmo took advantage of an official presentation last week to refresh two pillars of the connected home: outdoor security and heating. On one side, a new ORIGINAL Outdoor Camera that aims to do it all (record, illuminate, deter) with a real leap in image quality and Wi-Fi. On the other, a revamped ORIGINAL Thermostat and ORIGINAL Thermostatic Head, with a word that will make a lot of people smile: Matter.

ORIGINAL Outdoor Camera: the truly beefed-up 3-in-1 formula

Netatmo remains true to what made its outdoor camera a success: a single device, discreet on the facade, that combines a camera, LED projector, and siren. The “dissuasion” aspect is still there with a siren announced at 105 dB, and the built-in lighting remains a real plus when you want to illuminate a path or access to the garage without multiplying enclosures.

Where this version ORIGINAL clearly changes gear is in image and connectivity. Netatmo announces a capture in 2K+ HDR at 30 fps, a 130° wide angle, a x16 zoom, and infrared night vision, ensuring readable details even when the ambient lighting is far from ideal.

And because a “super sharp” camera that disconnects at the slightest Wi-Fi whim can quickly become annoying, Netatmo adds dual-band Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz + MIMO, with two dual-band antennas. In short: better chances of maintaining a stable stream outside, even if the router is not right behind the wall.

Smarter alerts, and especially less noisy on a daily basis

Netatmo emphasizes the combination of “good optics + embedded AI” to limit unnecessary notifications. The idea is simple: recognize people, animals, and vehicles, and only send what really matters. The icing on the cake is that alert zones and reactions can be customized (record only, notify, or trigger the alarm) to adapt the camera to the real-world situation: pedestrian passage in front of the gate, neighbor’s dog, secondary entrance, etc.

On the application side, the ORIGINAL Outdoor Camera integrates into Home + Security, which centralizes the brand’s security products (cameras, alarms, detectors, access control) with live views, replays, event history, and detection settings.

Privacy: local first, cloud only if you decide

Important point, and Netatmo makes it a marker: detection and video storage are done locally on the camera, on a microSD card, without necessarily going through a cloud. Cloud storage can exist as an option, but it is only activated if the user allows it. This is a clear positioning: protect without subscription, and without the brand having access to the videos. This is indeed an important point that the manufacturer has maintained since its beginnings.

Price, availability… and an accessory that nicely completes the picture

The ORIGINAL Outdoor Camera is announced in black or white, available from summer 2026, at a retail price of €249.99, via netatmo.com, Amazon, and partner distributors.

Netatmo also adds a matching Outdoor Projector to the design of the camera, priced at €69.99, with a 12W LED and automatic lighting on motion detection, adjustable intensity according to needs (a small detail that matters when you don’t want to be blinded with every passing vehicle).

ORIGINAL Thermostat + ORIGINAL Thermostatic Head: a major refresh… and Matter at the center

On the heating front, Netatmo is building on its best-seller launched in 2012 and announces a “completely rethought range.” On the agenda: a more minimalist design, a touchscreen that displays the essentials, and an eco-designed ORIGINAL Thermostat (designed in France, manufactured in Europe, with 65% of announced recycled plastics).

On the usage side, we find the expected fundamentals: programming, adjustments from the thermostat or the app, monitoring of heating activity, and an installation announced to be doable in under 30 minutes with complete packs, wired or wireless. The thermostat aims broad compatibility: gas/oil boilers, air-water heat pumps, wood/pellet stoves, etc.

“Smart” functions: anticipation, geolocation, scenarios… heating that follows real life

Netatmo highlights several practical functions: Anticipation (reaching the right temperature at the right time), Eco-Assist with geolocation to avoid heating when no one is there, screen locking, notifications/alerts in case of issues, and especially “Arrival / Departure” scenarios accessible from the thermostat screen and via the Home + Control app. Example given: by pressing “Departure,” heating set to 17 °C, shutters closed, lights off in the living room. That’s exactly the kind of shortcut that quickly becomes addictive!

A “piece by piece” thermostatic head and a hub that connects everything

The ORIGINAL Thermostatic Head aims for fine control per radiator (compatible with most hot water radiators), with a discreet white design, an LED screen that turns off automatically to limit consumption, and even a display orientation adjustment to adapt to the installation.

The real technical pivot is the Thermo Hub: plugged into a socket, it synchronizes all Netatmo ORIGINAL heating equipment and provides Matter compatibility. With Matter, Netatmo announces easier integration with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, plus voice control and more “cross-cutting” automations.

In passing, Netatmo confirms an app change: Home + Control replaces the old Energy app to centralize management, in a broader “connected home” logic.

Price, availability, and trade-in bonus: key points to remember

The ORIGINAL Thermostat is now available in packs: €139.99 for the wired version and €149.99 for the wireless version. The ORIGINAL Thermostatic Head is announced for September 2026.

Netatmo is also launching a “Trade-in Bonus”: €40 for customers already equipped with a Netatmo Thermostat who wish to upgrade to the new generation, with reconditioning of the old models in a circular economy logic.

What these announcements convey (beyond the technical specifications)

Netatmo conveys two very coherent messages. First, “no subscription” and “local when possible” on security, which remains a real trust argument when talking about videos of one’s property. Then, “interoperable” on the energy side, with Matter as a passport to avoid silo effects (and frankly, it was expected).

There’s also a detail that many will appreciate: the brand does not break everything to “make it new.” The camera retains a familiar silhouette for existing installations, and the heating modernizes the experience without changing the objective: to heat better without spending evenings doing so.
