For several years, Home Assistant has established itself as one of the most powerful and open home automation platforms on the market. Open source, free, compatible with thousands of devices, it appeals to both home automation enthusiasts and professionals. However, for many, the first contact with Home Assistant can be a little intimidating. Installation, configuration, YAML, integrations… it seems technical, especially when you just want to see what it looks like.
That is precisely why I launched a Home Assistant sandbox, accessible to everyone, directly from your browser.
👉 No installation, no hardware required. In just a few seconds, you can test the Home Assistant interface, explore its functions, create your own scenarios, and get a real idea of what this solution can offer.
A Home Assistant demo accessible in 3 seconds
The idea is simple: to allow everyone to discover Home Assistant as if they had installed it at home.
On testhomeassistant.fr, you will find a clear homepage explaining the principle and giving you access to the magic button: “Enter the demo”.
With one click, you are connected to a real instance of Home Assistant, hosted on my servers. You can explore the complete interface:
- The Demo Pro dashboard, specially designed for the occasion, shows the basics of home automation management: lights, temperature, sensors, cameras, etc. A lighter “Client” dashboard allows you to visualize other possibilities.
- You can interact with the various elements: turn on the “living room lamp”, simulate presence, display the virtual camera… in short, a real Home Assistant experience, but with no risk.
Every night, the system is automatically reset. This allows you to start each morning with a clean version, ready to be tested again.
Visitors can therefore modify, create, delete… without any fear. At 3:30 AM, everything is reset to zero!
Why this service?
As a professional or just a curious person, it is often difficult to get a concrete idea of a home automation system before having handled it.
Some test on a Raspberry Pi, others in a virtual machine… but that remains a technical step.
With testhomeassistant.fr, I wanted to provide a simple, quick and accessible to all way to discover Home Assistant, its modern interface and its impressive capabilities.
The goal: demystify Home Assistant.
Many people hear about this solution but think it is reserved for geeks.
In reality, it is currently an extremely user-friendly platform, with a clear graphical interface, simple automations to create, and an active community that generously shares.
And if you want to go further…
If this demo makes you want to get started (and I bet it will!), you will find on Maison et Domotique everything you need to take the next step:
- Complete guides to install Home Assistant on Raspberry Pi, mini PC, or NAS server.
- Product tests to choose the right hardware: Home Assistant Green box, mini PC Intel N100, Zigbee sensors, smart plugs, etc.
- And of course, the home automation news to stay updated on the latest developments of the platform.
All these resources are grouped directly on the demo page, with links to the official Home Assistant website, the official English-speaking forum and the HACF French forum.
Enough to progress at your own pace, whether you are a simple user or a future integrator.
A gateway to free home automation
Home Assistant is a bit like the beating heart of free home automation. It integrates with open protocols like Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, MQTT, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and allows for everything to be centralized: lights, heating, security, energy…
With more than 3,000 official integrations, over 1,000 compatible brands, and a community of over 20,000 contributors, it is today a major ecosystem, supported by the Open Home Foundation.
The idea of this demo is therefore to bring home automation within everyone’s reach, without technical barriers. Whether you are curious, a DIYer, or a professional, you can discover Home Assistant concretely, from your browser, without installing anything.
